The YOUth Inspire programme was constructed of an 8 week work placement programme for “work ready” young people aged 16 to 24.

This created opportunity for young people to gain work experience and qualifications, alongside vocational training.

The YOUth Inspire programme was a joint venture between Learning Partnerships, Leeds City Council, Connexions, Jobcentre Plus, Leeds City College, Re’new, Health for All and Groundwork Leeds.

Here's what employers have said about YOUth Inspire:

"We have found the YOUth Inspire project to be of huge benefit. Not only do we like to get involved with local projects it has been good to give these youngsters a help up on on the ladder." BMJV

“We have been hugely impressed with the excellent Youth Inspire programme. The programme brings about great benefits to local Businesses as well as the ability of businesses such as ourselves to offer hard working young people, who in this climate have struggled to be given any kind of working opportunity, real work experience and the possibility of a permanent position at the end of the placement.” Let Leeds

"The Youth Inspire scheme was an excellent way of trying out a potential recruit with minimum experience... I would have no hesitation in recommending the scheme to other organisations." The Big Word

"Jon Handley feels that the YOUth Inspire project, where voluntary organisations and private businesses are working in partnership to provide young people like Adam with appropriate work experience at the right level, is invaluable.  “The fact that Adam was ‘work-ready’ has been very important.” The Waistcoat & Cravat Company

And here is what the young individuals said:

“I learnt many skills in my time at LCC. I worked on various machines, used tools, folding machines, guillotines and have also done some welding. I have gained so many skills in such a short time and believe I have now realised what I want to do as a career.”

"Before Youth Inspire, it was difficult finding an opportunity due to a lack of experience. I couldn't get a job without relevant experience and I couldn't get experience without a job. It seemed to be an endless cycle".

To sum up his overall experience Mark enthused “Whether it's for experience, employment or references, Youth Inspire is a fantastic experience which gives you the chance to prove yourself and even gives you the chance to meet new people. After the 8 weeks, all the work and effort paid off which had led me to this apprenticeship. Without Youth Inspire, Communisis would have no idea who I was or what I can do"
