Viva Volunteering!

Reading Volunteers and the School Literacy Programme Manager, Gail Clark, celebrated with the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Tom Murray at the Civic Hall on Tuesday 27th May.

The event was held in order for the Mayor to personally thank individuals and groups for the great work they do in giving their time to help others and in doing so, help to make a positive difference across the city. The event was also an opportunity to celebrate 30 years of National Volunteering Week (1-7th June) and special recognition was given to those who had been volunteering for 30 years.

We would like to THANK all our volunteers who give their time and support to helping local children with their reading and literacy skills. Their regular support helps the children to become able and confident readers, to access the full curriculum and to reach their potential. Evaluation has shown that their support also helps to increase the children’s confidence and self-esteem as well as developing their communication and social skills. All vital key skills required to improve their future life chances and choices!

We are looking to expand the programme in September so if you are interested in finding out more about becoming a reading volunteer please contact:
