Volunteering with Hilary Benn -

MP Hilary Benn met with 2 <Way> Street volunteers at the Burmantofts Gala in June.

As part of a youth led project to celebrate the fabulous cultural diversity of Burmantofts,  our volunteers organised a stall and carried out a global & cultural mapping exercise. They met with 55 people from around the world, the furthest away being from Russia, Peru and China.

Volunteers who took part were delighted to share with us their knowledge of their home cultures.

It was a fantastic day and many people who took part in the event demonstrated love of their home cultures by bringing food, wearing traditional costume and playing authentic music. We can’t wait for next year!

Thanks to volunteers Hani, Gizem and Modou.

Gizem aged 20 said:  “Volunteering with 2<Way>Street has been fun and exciting.

It has helped me meet new people and communicate with others around me, and also I really enjoyed planning projects and sharing my ideas and listening to others.  2 Way Street has organised a volunteering placement at the the local hospital, this work experience opportunity will help me in the future with my goal to become a nurse.

Completing my100 hours nationally recognised vinsprired award for volunteering is great evidence of my attendance and will help me get into work.

If you know a young person aged 16-25 years living in East Leeds who would like to volunteer, please contact Belle on 0113 380 6662
