East Barnby Residential Trip

Residential3.jpg Residential-1_2.jpg

The Residential was funded by Leeds City Council through the Youth Contract, for work with young people who were not in Education, Employment or Training from the Jess Cluster (Beeston Hill & Holbeck, Belle Isle & Hunslet).

This residential focussed on team work, new challenges, raising confidence and self-esteem as well as covering valuable employability skills.

Nine young people attended along with Jenny and Ania from Learning Partnerships and three youth workers from Igen.

Learning Partnerships facilitated all the employability sessions and also supported Igen and East Barnby staff with the activities and advice & guidance for the young people.

We tried lots of various outdoor activities, including rock climbing, abseiling and body boarding. Have a look at the pictures we have taken! We also learnt a lot about employers' expectations, creating good first impressions, CV writing, job searching and interview techniques. Mock interviews were facilitated by East Barnby staff and all young people got lots of positive feedback.

Some quotes from the participants:

"I have overcome my fear of water and heights. I am really proud of myself."

"I have gained more confidence than I had before I came."

"The interview practice helped me to understand how I need to prepare and how important first impressions are."

"I have been really good at working in a team and helping other people when needed."
