Can you read this?

Many of the children we work with struggle with reading.

There are many children in local inner-city schools who struggle with reading and encounter barriers to learning throughout each day in school. Weak reading skills prevent them from reading for pleasure and enjoying a world of fiction, not to mention their ability to cope and be independent in the real world. 

By giving one hour of support a week, you can help them to become able and confident readers in time for the transition to high school, to access the full curriculum and to achieve their potential.

HOW:                     

Join the School Literacy Programme Volunteers

 

WHERE:                  

Local primary schools in inner-city Leeds (LS9, LS10, LS11, LS12 & LS14)

 

WHEN:                  

One hour a week (same day, same time each week, usually 1-2pm)

 

NEXT STEPS:          

Complete an application and an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) form

Attend a 3 hour training session (next date Tuesday 22nd October 5.30-8.30pm – city centre venue)
