Inspire and Achieve

Good news stories

Victor(30) came to England from Spain at the beginning of October 2013 and wanted to find employment in Leeds as soon as possible. He studied Macroeconomics and Marketing and Accountancy at two different universities in Basque Country, Spain and had fantastic reference from his Spanish employers.

He originally enrolled on an ESOL course run by Learning Partnerships in October and then November progressed into Inspired and Achieve- a programme which develops employability skills as well as soft skills such as teamwork and communication.

At the beginning of the course Victor and his tutor quickly recognised that he was facing three possible barriers to employment.

The first was his English language skills, especially spoken English, including pronunciation. This issue was dealt with during the ESOL and Inspire and Achieve courses.

The second was Victor's limited knowledge of job search in the UK. This problem was addressed during Inspire and Achieve.

The last barrier was his lack of experience in England. To overcome this barrier, Victor was given an opportunity to volunteer in the accounts department of Arcadia Group Ltd, Harehills,Leeds. His placement started on 6th January and lasted for four weeks.

Victor has gained confidence in his language and employability skills. He improved his listening skills, personalised his CV, learnt more about job search and interviews. He is still volunteering with Arcadia as working in a financial setting is his career goal, whilst continuing to source employment.
